The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, through their Community Development Grant, has provided $70,000 for the Gracemere Streetscaping project.
Mayor of Rockhampton Region, Margaret Strelow said this project was important for the Gracemere community.
“Gracemere has undergone extensive residential and commercial development over recent years and as one of our main growth areas within our Region, now is the time to enhance and add value,” said Mayor Strelow.
“Council has met with local residents, we have listened to their ideas and as a result have identified ways that we can improve the aesthetics of the local area. We have been working quite closely with them through the whole process.”
The Gracemere Streetscaping project will improve Gracemere’s streets through the planting of trees in dedicated median strips and footpaths.
“A mixture of mature and new plants has been planted along Conaghan Street, Johnson Road and Somerset Drive in Gracemere, making it greener and cooler and generally making Gracemere a better place to live,” said Mayor Strelow.
“I would like to thank Federal Member for Flynn, Ken O’Dowd and the Federal Government for their support and assistance with this project, and look forward to seeing the plants in full bloom in future years.”
The Gracemere Streetscaping project is due to be completed by the end of October.
